"Turner Back Time" is the eighteenth episode of Season 9.

Plot[]

When Timmy discovers his ancestor was a settler of Dimmsdale, he goes back in time to change a fateful decision he made.

Synopsis[]

Timmy has to write a school report about his ancestors, specifically his great-great-grandfather Ebenezer Turner, who helped found Dimmsdale. Not interested in researching with a history book, he has Cosmo and Wanda take him to the year 1744 to watch the town's founding as it happens. The three arrive in the past to see the then-mayor in the process of assigning jobs to the townspeople. He lets Ebenezer be either a railroad tycoon or the town crier (a person who "literally wander[s] the streets bawling his eyes out"). Ebenezer chooses the town crier job, believing railroads are a doomed fad, and the mayor puts Orville Buxaplenty in charge of railroads instead.

Timmy returns to the present incredulous that his ancestor lost the family a fortune by not becoming a tycoon. In spite of Wanda warning him about changing the past, he wishes Ebenezer had taken the railroad job. This changes history so that the Turners live in an enormous mansion and are so rich that they have butlers to do all their work, including sneezing.

After riding four trains to the front door, Timmy leaves the mansion and sees Dimmsdale is in ruins. Mr. Crocker, who now lives in a trash can, tells him that the Turners' greed over generations has wrecked the town and that he wants to start a revolution to overthrow them. Feeling guilty, Timmy calls for Cosmo and Wanda to undo the wish. Jorgen appears and reveals that Timmy's new life has made him too happy to have fairy godparents, and so Cosmo, Wanda, and Poof have been taken away.

Timmy tries to make himself miserable so that his fairies will return. He tries starving himself, but forgets about that plan as soon as Mr. Turner comes and gifts him with candy. He gives away everything he owns to the townspeople, but his father brings him "even cooler stuff" in response. Timmy gets Mr. Crocker to start his revolution, promising that Crocker will no longer have to live with his mother. Crocker leads a mob to the Turner power plant, where Timmy shuts off the train system Mr. Turner is constantly using. Having gone mad with power, Crocker thanks Timmy for his help by leaving him tied up on a railroad so he can run him over with a train. As soon as Timmy shouts that he has never been so miserable before, Cosmo and Wanda reappear and introduce themselves as his new fairy godparents. Just in time not to be killed, Timmy wishes to have his old life back. Timmy appears in his normal home and announces that his life is "perfect just the way it is".
