First, as many of you have learned, The Fairly OddParents is coming back for another season. This includes a live action Christmas movie and an unspecified amount of episodes. I've been absent a lot lately, and I'm not sure how much time I'll even be able to put into this wiki anymore when episodes start rolling out again, so I ask other fans to keep an ear out for FOP related news because for all we know Nickelodeon might start broadcasting new episodes with none of us knowing.
Thanks to those that fought the vandalism during this downtime. I've been cleaning up what I can, but I advise those uploading images to the wiki to please not just randomly add them to episode image galleries, especially if they put them out of chronological order. Also, there are many active editors here who haven't registered a name, doing so will help you get known around here and will allow me and other admins to grant you extra powers.
For FOP related news, there isn't much to justify a separate blog post, but Ernie Gilbert spoke on his blog and indicated that new Fairly OddParents episodes were underway (as of June 2012). Read more about it here
Below is a repost of my other image gallery project. I'll probably make a separate wiki article for it eventually, but right now I like having it on the front page because its easy for me and other people helping out with images to access. Note that the wiki article format galleries have been put on halt in place of image categories for characters and episodes. They will be used by infobox templates and as also a more load-time friendly gallery.
There are galleries that are similar to the above ones, but the images are less quality or in PNG format, either way they'll all be eventually replaced.
Strikethroughs mean that these galleries have been updated with higher quality JPG galleries. Some of these galleries (those of late Season 6 episodes / Season 8 except for the FOP movie) are not available on DVD yet and thus their current galleries should suffice for now.
This checklist is to help me track what I need to eventually add to therandom image main page template.
For those who want to help out building the image galleries, some tips and rules of thumb:
Only worry about the galleries that are marked in yellow in the above list (not the check list) , the rest are outdated, don't have DVD jpeg images, or are already completed.
Open two browser windows, one with the main gallery and one with the character gallery you are working on, put them side by side.
Start by copying the common filename (my uploads for instance follow a common pattern of Episode###.jpg) a whole bunch of times, main characters will need sometimes in the hundreds. Then simply rename the last three numbers accordingly.
Note: Some galleries have gaps in the numbers because images may have been merged or deleted after I uploaded them. Likewise, sometimes more images are added in between scenes, in which case they are usually named similar to the common filename but with a letter and the number of the last scene taking place before it. (i.e. Episode###a.jph', Episode###b.jpg, ect.) Always double check, if you are adding images by guessing the numbers from ordering.
In some cases where a character may not appear in an image, but it is a scene of something affecting them (i.e. getting blown up, falling/running off camera, or affected by magic) it is appropriate to add them to their gallery for explanation purposes, but remember not to go overboard as the galleries are just for images of the characters themselves.
For characters that switch bodies or the episode The Same Game... I'm still trying to figure that one out myself.
It can be hard to spot characters sometimes, especially if the image is a zoomed out environment. If you think an image might have contain a character that might have been missed, click on the image with ctrl+left click to open it directly in a new tab (might not work on some browsers), or click on it normally and then press the view photo details button in the bottom right corner, and it will bring you to the image's file page, where you can see what galleries link to it. This is an easy way to tell if an image is in all the character galleries it should be.
When working on characters that often appear in pairs (i.e., Cosmo and Wanda, Mr. and Mrs. Turner, Chester and A.J.) it is quicker to do both galleries at once. Copy the filenames like above, but when you find an image which just contains one of the characters instead of both, mark it with a letter after the filename (ie.Episode011.jpg C for an image containing just Cosmo, Episode012.jpg Wfor an image containing just Wanda, and leave it blank if its both) that way when you are finished, you can copy both lists to both character galleries, and then remove the filenames based on how you marked them; removing the ones that contain the letter of the other paired character, and keeping the ones that contain the gallery character's letter or are blank. Then make sure to remove the gallery character's letter mark from the other filenames or they will be included in the article/will break the image link.

Alright, I believe Timmy's Secret Wish image gallery is finished. All the galleries look complete. Maybe I might've missed an image or two but otherwise it seems fine, so I removed it from the yellow list.
I already uploaded Vicky Gets Fired :/
If you had noticed, I think you uploaded the iTunes version due to the resolution being 640x480 instead of whatever number the DVD version is. And I uploaded the iTunes version of the episode.
About the Vicky Gets Fired gallery.... the old one can be removed flat out (in fact, I'm going to do it after I write this message). But its also missing the Vicky Gets Fired end card, so I'll add that as well. Other than that, it looks like that gallery is ready to be whitemarked on the above list.
I meant the end card, which I now uploaded... if you need to me to I'll do over some parts of that gallery but its really not high on the priority list right now.
In the mean time, the four episodes I was asked to do have been completed. I have other requests for larger projects like the 30 minute episodes and Abra-Catastrophe, but these are a lot more time consuming. Luckily I've finally figured out how to get my bot to upload pictures by itself with a very low failure rate (it sometimes fails to upload 4 or 5 pictures out of hundreds, easily manageable). The most time consuming steps are sorting out the image galleries to be uploaded from the thousands of pictures FFD codec captures, and after they are uploaded sorting them into individual character galleries.
Right now, I believe I'm going to finish the entire galleries for Season 1 and Season 2, with occasional stops in the other seasons. I will not being doing any Season 9 episodes for the time being, but that may change if they'd actually put out one that was interesting and didn't have characters with tons of images/potential images already. The older seasons air more rarely, and most older fans prefer them, so getting them done is now priority.
When I do eventually get to Season 9's galleries, I will be uploading the 1080p WEB-DL's version. Hopefully, JPG won't mess it up too bad, and PNG with that size is typically over 1MB per file, something I doubt Wikia's servers would appreciate.
You need Python 2.6.5 (Make sure its that version, newer ones won't work) and Pywikipedia. This page from Community Wikia has some good information on how to get started and setup. I believe you'll be able to use your own account (PookaMustard) as a bot, but your edits wont be hidden like Dinklebot so use it wisely. You can also set up a separate account and ask Wikia to flag it as a bot.
Next, get the upload_multiple.py script here. You may want to change "keepFilename = False" to True and "verifyDescription = True" to False, otherwise it will ask you to verify the description and filename for every single image you upload and it won't do it automatically. More important is the "filename =" near the top and less important the description one right below it. Change the filename one to something like 'upload.txt'
Then, put all the images you want to upload in a separate folder, use command prompt to make a text list using the dir > command in that folder (I forget the exact perimeters, I believe -b is the one you want to make it give you a "bare" list of just your image filenames but you'll probably want to look this up first) and finally in that text file use the Replace All function to add the exact path to that image
So it should look like
and so on. Rename that text file upload.txt (or whatever you used for the upload_multiple.py's filename perimeter) and put it in the same directory as your upload_multiple.py is, which should be the pywikipedia directory. Run command prompt, navigate to that folder, type login.py (to log into your bot's account. if you followed the Community Wikia's steps above this should log you into the Wikia server correctly) then type upload_multiple.py and the rest should do itself if you followed my badly explained steps correctly.
Hmm, thanks for the info... this would allow me to do the galleries instantly although I need a Python... can't I set up another bot account? Or will it just count the images as edits, in which case it already did that a million times before?
I can rename the images and list them in a text using advanced file renamer though. That should make the rest easy. Hmm...
Now I am content that I can finish this badly organised Fairly OddChristmas gallery!
EDIT: I overlooked the bot part... how can I ask wikia to flag that other account as a bot?
Wikia's bot page has some info. You should be able to simply ask them to flag a bot account for you, I don't recall it was hard for me to get Dinklebot flagged at all, I simply asked nicely.
Also, get AutoWikiBrowser. Its not as sophisticated as Pywikipedia Bot, but it has nifty features and an interface. I use it namely to give images descriptions or add categories to them, as well as deleting old unused images that this gallery project has replaced. You'll need to ask to have your bot account added to this list.
File "upload_multiple.py", line 37, in <module>
raise Exception("%s doesn't exist" % filename)
Exception: doesn't exist
Could I get your own upload_multiple.py file instead?
EDIT: Nevermind... like I said on the community chat, it took me years of frustration to pull it off. I uploaded some more scenes from "Vicky Gets Fired" using it successfully. Now I can start uploading instantly! Thanks!
The problem is, how do we add the license information, that side dish.
The exception error looks like it couldn't find the filename/list you made (Upload.txt in my "tutorial") but I guess you figured that on your own.
Looks pretty good so far, but for replacing those image descriptions I use AutoWikiBrowser. When I upload using Pywikipedia, I set the description to ImageDescriptPlaceholder or something like that and then use the AutoWikiBrowser's replace all function to essentially copy and paste the usual format I use. "Licensing" is the same as adding
To the bottom of every image description. I also use the bot to add all of those images to their own category based on the episode, for instance Teeth For Two images.
Oh, I see you had posted that you will upload season 9's galleries very later. I'm reporting that Fairly OddPet's gallery with every 1 second of it taken as JPGs accumulate 250MBs of disk space. 250MBs!!
Be very careful with them.
On a side note, my bot, User:VickyBot_9001, is ready to take action. Or do I need to do other procedures in order to use AutoWikiBrowser on it?
EDIT: Also after clearing some images of the first part of the HD episode, 389 images accumulate like 68.5MBs approx.
Vicky Gets Fired should be white. FairlyOddPet is yellow. When Losers Attack had been uploaded, without the character galleries (save for Vicky, but that's it for now, the characters are used here more than Fairly OddPet). Also there's A Bad Case of Dairy-Uh!. Now let's try the whole deletion thing.
Oh by the way, do I have to use the delete button? Can't I automate the process without going to pywikiapedia? Whenever I wanted to regenerate those user files, it says they had been created and I can't change a thing. Even another fresh installation had it say this error.
