The episode was originally titled Finding Cosmo, in allusion to Finding Nemo, per the script of the episode that was on Scribd in 2009. As of the time of storyboarding, the current title was already in use.^[1]
Cosmo destroying Atlantis was first mentioned in This is Your Wish. It was mentioned again in "Pixies Inc.".
Wet Willy from "Power Pals!" is mentioned.
When Cosmo confesses that he sank the city of Atlantis nine times instead of just one time, Wanda questions her husband on where she was when all that was happening (especially considering that, by the events of this episode, she and Cosmo had been together for roughly 10,000-years). Cosmo then claims to have "this whole secret life" that Wanda (and presumably nobody else) knows nothing about.

SpongeBob SquarePants - The King of Atlantis said that the Atlanteans fed on crabs, starfish and "underwater squirrels", which makes a reference to Mr. Krabs, Patrick Star and Sandy Cheeks.

A running gag in this episode is that people call Cosmo "The Notorious One", or "The Accursed One", due to him repeatedly destroying Atlantis.

When Timmy said "Behold, the horrors of surface world, TRASH!.", the captions exclude the S in Horrors.
After Timmy said, "I don't have the car keys!", two fishes were shown in Mr. Turner's car. How can they breathe on land?
When the King of Atlantis labels Timmy as the new "Accursed One" after he accidentally destroys Atlantis by summoning a giant squid, the banner portrays him as his human self despite him being a merman when he visited Atlantis.

Wanda: You sank Atlantis NINE times? Where was I when this was happening?

Cosmo: I've got this whole secret life that you know nothing' about.

Cosmo: Have you smelled the inside of your mouth?! Two words: Mouthwash.

Wanda: That's one word.

Cosmo: Then I'll say it twice. Mouthwash! Mouthwash!
