Trivia
- Timmy's Aunt Gertrude is shown only in lobster form in her one appearance in the series.
- Each character lost more than one life in the game. Timmy was hit by a shredder ball on level 1. Due to the power surge caused by Vicky, the monkey bars on a level disappeared for a short time which caused A.J. to fall in the canyon and lose a life. In the Classroom of Doom Level, A.J. intentionally pushed Chester off the desk which caused him to lose a life. In the final level, the three players were crushed by Robot Vicky's foot with spikes. Then as Chester and A.J. were about to get killed by Mecha Vicky, Timmy risked his last life to save them by pushing his friends out of the way but getting crushed in the process. For saving his friends, his score skyrocketed to 50,000,000 and that was enough to give Timmy a free life, thus reviving him. Mecha Vicky was then defeated when Cosmo poofs up something that would stop Vicky.
- There are sharp points at the top ends of the janitors' brooms in the Classroom of Doom Level, providing the illusion of impaling spikes for anybody that falls off the desks.
- In this episode, it is revealed that for when Timmy has a particularly large wish, Cosmo and Wanda's wands have plugs for extra power.
- This episode inspired the "Vicky Virus" level of the Breakin' Da Rules video game.
- There is an online Nick.com game based upon this episode called "Power Surge."
- In the game Power Surge, there are only three levels. The Electric Shredder Balls of Doom Level, The Classroom of Doom Level, and the final level. In the first level, Timmy must avoid the shredder balls and complete it. In level 2, Timmy must complete the level and avoid falling off the desks, the janitors' brooms' top ends, and the opening desks. In level 3, Timmy must avoid missiles shot by Mecha Vicky.
- Chester and A.J. are identified by name for the first time in this episode. However, Chester's last name, McBadbat, is not revealed until the second season episode "Foul Balled", while A.J.'s last name wouldn't be revealed until The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish episode "Crock to the Future".
- Robot Vicky appears as a boss in Fairly OddParents: Enter the Cleft!
- According to Wanda (when she wrote her diary), this episode occurs on Wednesday, March 22, with an unknown year. The year could possibly be 2000, due to the technology in the episode and being the most nearby year to have March 22 on a Wednesday when this episode premiered in 2001. However, since the more pivotal episode "The Secret Origin of Denzel Crocker!" is specifically set on Friday, March 15, 1972, when Timmy was specifically 10, this was rendered null and void.
- The level with Aunt Gertrude is level eight. When Vicky is in the game at the end, she goes from level one to level eight in about five seconds. Unless levels one to seven are ridiculously short, Vicky must be absolutely amazing at video games, but also horrible to the extent that she gets struck 3 times.
- Vicky can be heard getting struck by in-game hazards 3 times. Since getting hurt in the game means the loss of the 3 given lives, this would mean Vicky is dead right as the episode concludes.
- Apparently, Timmy always goes to the bathroom at 6:13 (according to A.J. at least).
- Cosmo and Wanda do not do anything halfway apparently (Cosmo states it is because he and Wanda are two halves of a whole idiot).
- This episode uses 3D animation.
Production Notes
- The inspiration for this episode came from Butch Hartman's childhood, where he wished that he could be inside a video game.[1]
- As an early use of CGI on television, the scene where Timmy dodges carrots à la The Matrix took significantly longer to produce, with Butch Hartman recalling that it required "weeks and weeks of meetings on how to do this one shot". [1]
- The first draft of the episode was completed on March 27, 2000, with the final draft being completed on April 5.[2] It's possible that some of this first draft was written the week prior, as Butch recollected in the aforementioned video that the line "Wednesday, March 22; Cosmo had an idea!" may have been written on March 22, which fittingly enough was a Wednesday.[1] As Butch could not say with certainty that was the case, it's also possible the writers merely chose the most recent Wednesday at the time of writing.
- The success of this episode and its' sister episode was what prompted Nickelodeon to renew the series for a second season, as they were initially unsure it would be successful. Nickelodeon would call Butch the following Monday to announce that they were ordering more episodes. [1]
- This is the first episode along with "The Big Problem!" to be produced in the same year of 2001 according to the credits. They were the two first episodes to be produced in 2001.
- This episode had some additional scenes in the script that were cut for time or altered.[2]
- When the power went out, there was originally a scene inside a doctor's auditorium, where a doctor was about to take out a patient's second kidney, but after the blackout, he's holding a beating heart.
- Another scene when the power went out was a man and a woman having a romantic dinner. When the light dims, the man says that she looks more like his mom, after which the woman cries.
- When Aunt Gertrude pinches Timmy's metallic cheeks, she originally cracked open to reveal crab meat, after which a family wielding knives and forks were getting ready to eat her.
- Upon entering the final level, Timmy would originally spot a Wanda coin before realizing that he's still in the game.
- This and its sister episode are the highest viewed episodes of season 1.
- They are also the only episodes of season 1 to go over 2.00 million viewers, with 3.59 million.
Allusions
- I Love Lucy - The television sitcom "I Love Wanda" is a spoof on the sitcom, with Wanda as Lucy and Cosmo as Ricky.
- Seinfeld - The show "Cosmo" is a parody of this sitcom, complete with slap bass music and Cosmo saying it's "a show about nothing."
- Jerry Springer - The talk show Cosmo and Wanda make to distract Vicky is a parody of the show, according to the script.
- Sally Jessy Raphael - Wanda's outfit as a talk show host is a parody of Jessy Raphael's outfit on her talk show.
- Atari - The video game has generic versions of Atari sound effects.
- Mario Bros. - When Timmy, A.J., and Chester lose a life, the sound that plays is exactly the same sound that plays when you hit an enemy in the 1983 arcade game.
- The Matrix - When Timmy dodges the carrots in slow motion, it parodies the movie, when Agent Smith shoots at Neo with a gun while Neo dodges the bullets in slow motion.
- The scene of Timmy dodging carrots is also similar to the introduction movie parodies in "Wishology!: The Big Beginning" when Timmy as Neo was being chased by Mr. Crocker as Agent Smith.
- Atari 2600 - The console and the remote control that Timmy is using in the title card resemble the console and its controller.
- Tron - The plot is similar to the movie, as Timmy, Chester, A.J. become part of the game and can be permanently deleted if their 3 lives are lost, as well as their virtual reality suits being very similar in appearance. According to Butch, the trails Timmy, Chester and A.J. make in the fight with Robot Vicky were references to the Light Cycles in the movie.[1]
- Sonic the Hedgehog - Robot Vicky may be a reference to Mecha Sonic from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in their appearance and spike-based attacks.
Running Gags
- The phrase "What am I/is he, four?" being used to describe Timmy's age.
- Someone barging into Timmy's room and breaking the fishbowl with Cosmo and Wanda in it.
- Cosmo calling Timmy's wishes "vague".
- Cosmo and Wanda parodying TV shows.
- Things causing power surges.
Goofs
- Before Timmy leaves to the bathroom, one of the virtual reality helmets is placed on top of the game console and the other one is placed next to it on the right, but when Chester and A.J. come, they pick up the virtual reality helmets and both are on the floor far from the game console.
- As Chester and A.J. are entering Timmy's room, two virtual reality helmets can be seen. However, after Timmy enters, he picks up another helmet even though there appeared to be only two in the room, which Chester and A.J. took.
- As Vicky changes the channel after watching I Love Wanda, part of the outline on her hand holding the remote disappears.
- When Timmy tells Chester and A.J. that they need to take their helmets off, and A.J. says that he went at 6:13, look at Chester's eyebrows. They turn black for a second.
- When all the electricity was out at the end, Vicky was playing in the game even though Cosmo and Wanda weren't powering it.
- When Cosmo and Wanda take out their wands' electricity cables, they don't have gloves on. But when the cables are being connected, the hand that connected it has a glove.
- Vicky was still alive in the game even though she wasted her 3 lives.
- Vicky's eyelashes are gone for a brief moment when she was telling Timmy that she can't watch her shows on TV.
- During one point of the episode, Chester's overbite is missing.
- During one point in the episode, Wanda's teeth are missing.
- Timmy's wish was for "a game that you can't wish yourself out of", not "a game that you can't be wished out of". The way that it was worded should've allowed for someone outside the game to wish others out of it, or even for someone in the game to wish others besides themselves out of it.

- (Chester and A.J. arrive at the next level)
- A.J.: Wow! The Classroom of Doom level!
- Chester: Hey, Look!
- (Chester and A.J. look at the janitors below them)
- Chester: Apparently if you don't get through this class, you spend the rest of your life as a janitor!
- A.J.: There's a lesson in that!
- Chester: Besides, I have three lives!
- (A.J. pushes Chester into the pit, and Chester screams as he falls. He respawns, angry at A.J.)
- Timmy: Stop it! Guys, we have to stick together.
- (Chester tries to throw A.J. into the pit, but is stopped by Timmy)
- Timmy: Only together, through the power of teamwork can we...
- (Chester and A.J. run off excitedly, leaving Timmy behind. Timmy sighs, and runs off after them)
