"Hero Hound" is the twentieth episode of Season 9.

Synopsis[]

Timmy wishes Sparky would get a chance to be heroic, while Dad thinks he can talk to animals.

Plot[]

Sparky tells Timmy to hide him from a "monster" outside the house, which is actually a baby rabbit. Timmy tells him to be braver. A show about heroic dogs titled Hero Hounds starts on TV, and on it, a dog named Reuben is shown saving a baby in a burning building and safely landing an airplane. Sparky feels like a coward in comparison. Mr. Turner notices his sadness and asks him what the problem is. When Sparky answers him, Mr. Turner realizes that he can understand what Sparky says, which he assumes to mean that he has a special ability to talk to animals. Emboldened by this, he quits his job at Pencil Nexus.

Timmy takes pity on Sparky and makes a wish for him to have the opportunity to be a hero, which Cosmo fulfills by making Timmy fall into a well in the backyard. Wanda tells Sparky that he can save Timmy, so Sparky takes a flight to China and digs through the Earth until he surfaces at the bottom of the well. Then, instead of simply floating Timmy out of the well, he takes him through the hole to China and they take a plane and a taxi back to Dimmsdale. Sparky's ten-day-long rescue of Timmy makes headlines in newspapers and magazines. Mr. Turner hosts Sparky "the hero dog" on his new talk show, The Animal Talker. Sparky basks in his newfound popularity. However, once Cosmo thoughtlessly tells him that Timmy staged the well accident, he loses confidence in himself again.

A panda that crawled up from the hole to China rampages in Dimmsdale. Mr. Turner attempts to talk to it, but figures that it must speak Chinese and flees to Timmy's room. The panda follows him there and eats Cosmo, Wanda, and Poof, who are disguised as goldfish. Sparky enters the room as the panda is about to attack Mr. Turner and Timmy. He takes it for another fake crisis meant to cheer him up and refuses to help. Seeing the panda use a judo-esque attack on Mr. Turner, however, makes him change his mind. Having learned in China that pandas get indigestion from fried food, Sparky feeds the panda crispy wontons so that it burps up the fairies, who then poof the panda back to China.

Timmy and Sparky watch an episode of Hero Hounds about Sparky saving Timmy from the well and saving him and Mr. Turner from the panda. Sparky says that he is the world's bravest dog. Mr. Turner gets his old job back by calling Ed Leadly's pet poodle.
