This series is a parody of Rugrats, a famous 1990s Nicktoon that first aired from 1991 to 2004. It is a show that centers around baby characters, that cannot walk, talk, or take care of themselves in any way while the adults are not around; the only "speaking" character is Timmy Turner, whose thoughts are heard.

Carpet Critters was the second television program Timmy visited in "Channel Chasers", after wishing for a Magic TV Remote that allows him to travel through television as if the programs were real worlds. Timmy seems quite bored with being in the program, as the other babies look at him creepily. He ends up pooping his diaper, as he crawls around on all fours, with his loaded, stinky, soiled diaper dragging behind him.

One of the babies resembles Phil but with orange hair like Chuckie.
Another baby looks like Susie but is a baby instead of a preschooler.
Coincidentally, Channel Chasers premiered the same year Rugrats ended: 2004.
To maintain the resemblance to real Rugrats episodes, Klasky Csupo, the company that created Rugrats, animated the Carpet Critters scene in Channel Chasers.
Tara Strong, who plays Timmy, has also done voicework for Rugrats. Most prominently, she was the voice of Dil Pickles, who joined the show in the 1998 film The Rugrats Movie. She has also voiced side character Timmy McNulty, who made a few appearances beginning with the show's revival in 1997, coincidentally using the same voice she would later on use for Timmy Turner himself. Likewise, Dionne Quan, the voice of Trixie Tang, also did voicework for Rugrats as Chuckie's adoptive sister, Kimi Finster, who joined the show in the 2000 film Rugrats in Paris: The Movie.
Timmy's outfit resembles Tommy Pickles' outfit, though the shirt color is pink instead of light blue.
Carpet Critters shares a similar name to an actual cartoon called Capitol Critters.
