Ernie Gilbert

Ernie Gilbert is a character designer and art director who has worked on The Fairly OddParents, Danny Phantom and T.U.F.F. Puppy.

Starting as a freelance designer on OddParents in 2000, Ernie became a full-time character designer on the show in August 2001, design supervisor in 2004 and art director in 2005.

In 2006 Gilbert won an Annie Award for Best Character Design in an Animated Television Production for his work on "The Good Old Days!", for which he also did art direction and provided the singing voice and ukulele playing for Chippington Skylark III.

In 2010 Gilbert was tasked with designing the main character line-up for Butch Hartman's series T.U.F.F Puppy, designing Kitty Katswell, Verminious Snaptrap, the Chief, Keswick, Sally Mander, Birdbrain and the Chameleon, among others. In 2011 Ernie was awarded a second Annie award for Best Character Design in a Television Production for his work on T.U.F.F Puppy, and in 2012 and 2014 received Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for the same series.

Ernie resumed his role of art director on the 9th season of The Fairly OddParents before moving on to Nick Jr., where he provided art direction for Fresh Beat Band of Spies. He next worked for Disney Junior, creating the look for Puppy Dog Pals and art directing the first four seasons. Ernie returned to Nickelodeon in 2020 to art direct Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years and Plankton: The Movie.
