Ok, so... I kinda stopped watching Fairly Odd Parents, but hearing that the show had gotten a CANON MARY SUE enrages me as a fan of good character design
I’m gonna try re-writing the character. Here it is: Chloe rewritten
Chloe is a girl who’s barely had any human interaction and was basically homeschooled (by something like a robot maybe) until she moved to Dimmsdale and her parents decided to put her in an actual school. Her parents were barely ever home so she barely got to interact with them. She’s lonely and afraid of actual human interaction. She’s especially afraid of interacting with other kids since the only actual people she’s interacted with are adults. She’s also afraid of anything going wrong because of the absence of any people other than herself at home. This could explain why she’s good at so many things, she learned everything she possibly could to prepare for any situation. She’s afraid of anything bad happening, and often panics and overreacts.
She’s a perfectionist who never wants to do anything wrong, especially with her parents telling everyone she’s the perfect child. She’s afraid that if she makes a mistake, people will be disappointed in her and feel like they’ve been lied to since they were told she could do no wrong.
Chloe got fairies to help her with her loneliness, fear of making mistakes, and fear of anything going wrong because the fairies can solve any problems that might happen, allowing her to focus on other things and enjoy life, and they’ll be there for her so she won’t be home alone almost constantly. She shares fairies with Timmy so she’d be forced to interact with other children (and with an actual human being)... look, I believe it follows continuity more than the actual show did. I was trying
As for positive traits, well, she’s good at almost everything, I already stated that. She’s a kind-hearted person and also intelligent. She often thinks up anything that can go wrong and tries to think of a solution (Though she does stress about it a lot). That’s what I’ve got for now at least
I’d say this re-write of Chloe works excellently as a foil to Timmy. Timmy isn’t really the kindest and most intelligent person in the world, but he actually knows how to talk to people and has actual human friends (and then some). Chloe is expected to be perfect, while Timmy is expected to fail. Timmy doesn’t think of any long-term consequences or anything that could go wrong with his wishes while Chloe stresses about these things to no end. Timmy isn’t afraid of making mistakes, Chloe fears them. I think you can easily see the point
I hope I explained this well enough
I just hate Mary Sues (unless they’re jokes) and I especially hate the idea of a CANON SUE
Seriously people, FLAWS MAKE CHARACTERS INTERESTING AND RELATABLE AND GIVES THEM ACTUAL PERSONALITIES! YOU CAN EVEN TWIST POSITIVE TRAITS INTO NEGATIVE ONES (I should know, I’ve done it. Not spoiling it though, I haven’t finished the story yet and I’m planning on releasing it one day when it is finished. I’m not gonna reveal it right here so somebody can steal my ideas)
How she’d be introduced... I don’t know. Maybe one day in the future if I could find easy access to The Big Fairy Share Scare or whatever it was called and I get the time (and actual want to) I can write an idea for how that episode would go
Please share your thoughts. No matter how good you are or think you are, you can always do better. That’s why constructive criticism exists. I’m not exempt to any criticisms or anything because I’m a normal person with faults just like everyone else. And that’s why Mary Sues are garbage
