"A Mile in My Shoes" is the eighth episode of Season 2.

Plot[]

"Timmy's had a rough day. Cosmo and Wanda have had a rough day, too. Neither side appreciates what it takes to be a kid/fairy godparent. A little magic will take care of that and POOF, Cosmo and Wanda learn what it's like to be a kid all day while Timmy discovers that granting wishes 24/7 ain't all it's cracked up to be."

Synopsis[]

Cosmo and Wanda have to go to Fairy World to certify their crowns and tune up their wands, and they explain to Timmy that they will not be able to "zap" him to school the day they go. When that day comes, it turns out that Mr. Turner has been busy making the family car into a giant fighting robot, and since Timmy missed the bus, he has to walk to school in the rain. Once Timmy makes it to school, he becomes the target of a "dries versus wets" dodgeball match and is pelted with volleyballs. Meanwhile in Fairy World, Cosmo and Wanda are worked to exhaustion from Jorgen making them do pull-ups with their wands.

Timmy and the godparents switch places.

Timmy complains that evening about his miserable day and tells Cosmo and Wanda that they "have no idea how hard it is to be a kid". Wanda insists that being a fairy godparent is tough too, which Timmy scoffs at. So Wanda suggests: "If you think it's so easy being a fairy, why don't you try it?" Timmy accepts the challenge and wishes to be fairy godparent to Cosmo and Wanda, who in turn become copies of him and take his place. Mr. and Mrs. Turner show up outside in the now-functional fighting robot, and the fairy Timmy struggles to disguise himself before they come to tuck him into bed; he is able to change into a goldfish in time, but suffocates in the fishbowl because he has no gills. Wanda hides while Cosmo poses as Timmy and the parents attend to him.

Later, Mr. and Mrs. Turner catch Wanda watching TV past Timmy's bedtime and then reprimand Cosmo when they see him in the kitchen reaching for a cookie. Timmy hopes that his former godparents have seen how tough his life is, but they warn him that Saturday is coming and he will have to spend the day granting all of their wishes.

"My hedges! Curse you, Dinkleberg!"

Saturday arrives, and Vicky has come to babysit while the parents fight the neighbors' giant robot with their own. She tasks Cosmo and Wanda with myriad chores, which the two plan on using Timmy to get done. Wanda asks Timmy to take out the trash for her, but instead he ends up turning himself into an octopus. Cosmo trims the hedges in the front yard, but when they are crushed during the battle between Mr. Turner and Mr. Dinkleberg, he also calls Timmy to fix them. Timmy just turns into a balloon and floats out of control, at which point he decides he needs to go learn how to be a fairy.

Timmy goes to Fairy World and encounters Jorgen, who puts him in rigorous physical training. To demonstrate the need to be prepared for unexpected wishes, Jorgen zaps away Timmy's wings so that Timmy will have to improvise a way to save himself from a free fall – which Timmy does by magically filling the ground with volleyballs to land on. Timmy finally declares that he was wrong to think that being a fairy is easy. Jorgen suggests jeeringly that he "should go back to being a puny little human boy", and Timmy agrees.

Timmy goes back home and reunites with Cosmo and Wanda, who are tired from having to handle Vicky on their own. He apologizes to them ("I thought being a fairy would be fun, but I learned it's more fun to be a kid because I have you guys to make it better.") and Cosmo and Wanda wish the three of them back to normal.
